Mature Adults English

This course is very popular with both single mature adults and couples or colleagues who just want to polish or expand their knowledge of English rather than attending a language school where the vast majority of students are in their teens or early twenties. Courses are available from pre-Intermediate English level upwards.

Programme Content

Our 50+ Holiday English Programme is designed exclusively for learners with more life experience and who want to mix English learning with a holiday. Learners can decide in advance the type of English they wish to study and ALEC will design a course for you. In the past, ALEC has offered the following courses:

  • General Intensive English to improve social skills;
  • General Intensive English aimed at particular hobbies and sports such as pottery, cooking or fishing and golf;
  • Professional English Training to help with your profession; and
  • Combination of General and Business English.
  • We once designed a course for a business couple who had a "Wig Making" business. So let us know what course we can design for you?

    Mature Adult English courses are available from 15 hours, 20 hours and 25 hours a week. Because of the intensive nature of the course it is recommended that students do not take more than15/ 20 hours a week unless they have excellent stamina. Learners need time to think about what they have studied in class and time to explore the culture and countryside.

    Teachers

    The teachers in our 50+ Holiday Programme are all mature individuals some of whom have over 20 years experience in teaching TEFL as well as having other careers before joining the EFL world. They all bring a broad range of interests and hobbies to the programme and they thoroughly enjoy the social interaction of hosting people from overseas as well as the challenge of teaching mature people. Most enjoy a relaxing glass of Red / Guinness in the evening and a good chat.

    Culture

    Your host teacher will guide you towards the best of Irish culture along the West Coast of Ireland from traditional Irish music and dancing to outdoor activities that involve hill walking, rock fishing and golf, horse racing venues, bird watching or indeed hobbies like pottery or arts and crafts. See our photo gallery.

    You can look forward to a high standard of comfortable accommodation with private bathrooms, fresh organic food and access to the fridge and kitchen at all times.

    Teaching Approach

    All teachers in the ALEC network use the modern, inductive-communicative approach combined with the methods of blended learning in delivering English language instruction. ALEC uses a variety of materials some of which are developed by ALEC, especially video, music and cultural themes, to help learners use every day conversational English in a meaningful way.

    All our teachers hold a primary degree from an Irish university and are accredited by ACELS (www.ielts.ie) to teach English to students whose first language is not English.

    Teacher Sharing

    This is only possible where two or more individuals are of the same language level and come on the same dates. A PRICE REDUCTION APPLIES FOR EACH STUDENT SHARING LESSONS.
